Natural Cures for Dog Bites

Fear may drive dogs to bite in situations where there is really no threat but they perceive a threat. It is a paralyzing fear.

If the wound is over an area that has internal organs underneath, an examination is even more important. On the other hand, if you are sure that there is only muscle underneath, you may not need an exam, though it never hurts to be certain there is not deep trauma.

Unless a bite wound is clearly superficial, we recommend that you have a veterinarian examine your companion if he has been bitten. This is especially true of dog bites, as there is more force behind the bite.

You never can be sure just what the extent of the damage is in these cases, so an examination is generally useful. It is common to find more damage under a bite than one might expect based upon the skin damage, especially in cats with their loose skin. Antibiotics are usually unnecessary, though they are commonly prescribed. Once you determine that the wound is relatively minor, home treatment is fine.

See your veterinarian if the wound begins to smell badly or is not healing. One of the following homeopathic remedies may help speed the healing process. Wound cleanliness is important as is management of the trauma. See above in the section “general Care for Abscesses” for helpful supplements and an herbal wash for wounds. Use the wash three to four times a day to cleanse the area.

Common remedies that are broadly applicable for treatment:

Aconitum napellus

Usually, the fear is gripping and may have originated from an emotionally traumatic incident. Their response is usually rapid and violent (not aggressive violent toward others so much as violent in their strength). Aconite is one of the main fear remedies. They seem to be fearful of almost everything and are anxious and restless as a result.

Arsenicum album

This is for the classic “fraidy cat” who disappears when company arrives. These cats are usually friendly and loving to their family but terrified of anyone they do not know.

Calcare carbonica

Their behavior seems to be manipulative or controlling, because they simply will not budge on some requests. They often simply will not go into a certain room or down a certain street. Fear of change makes a move terrifying; they may develop physical illness following a move. These animals are generally fearful of new situations and people. Their fear is not so evident .

Passiflora incarnate

This remedy is not applicable for long term administration. This remedy may be used for its calming effect, though it will not likely stop the fear from occurring. Use it in low potency-3X, 6X, 3X, or 6C. Calms and Calms Forte may be used also.

Stramonium

This remedy state is one of error that often leads to aggression. These animals may bite when they are afraid. Perhaps they hear a noise they do not understand; their fear is aroused and they become aggressive as a defense. They may then bite an innocent bystander due to their heightened state. Bright lights and darkness may also trigger their fear.

Homeopathic Medicines for Cats and Dog Bites

Acetic acid
The state of your companion is extremely listless following a bite wound, this remedy may help him regain his strength and if the wound does not seem severe enough to warrant the prostration.

Arnica montana
Use Arnica first as it is so useful for trauma of almost any sort. It is especially useful for the animal who is afraid of touch because of the pain. It can prevent abscesses and minimize tissue trauma. Reduced tissue damage means better and faster healing.

Hypericum perforatum
This remedy is great for wounds that involve areas with a lot of nerves, such as the toes, tongue, and tail. It relieves pain in the nerves better than Arnica. If your companion is bitten in one of these areas and Arnica does not relieve the pain, especially if the pain is intense, try Hypericum.

Lacbesis
Lacbesis is needed for bite wounds that turn dark blue to black. This is usually due to the especially traumatic nature of the bite. These wounds tend to become infected because the circulation to the wound is compromised. Often, this occurs from an aggressive fight when the bite was vicious.

Ledum palustre
Ledum is said to be a preventive against tetanus. It is usually the first remedy to give when the puncture is from a rusty nail or similar object. As the best-known remedy for puncture wounds, Ledum is another good choice for bite wounds, especially if they are primarily punctures rather than lacerations. The wound way twitch and the area around the wound may be cold to the touch

Lyssin
This is the homeopathic nosode for rabies. It should be administered by a homeopathic veterinarian, but in cases where your companion was viciously attacked, it may be of use to prevent transmission of the aggressive tendency.
