Pet Arthritis Natural Cures

This condition can affect the young or old, making the joints ache and the back or limbs sore. Some problems are worse in damp, cold conditions; at the onset of storms; or when the weather abruptly changes.

  1. Acupressure and massage: In Chinese medicine, it is believed that pain results from a blockage of energy or blood circulation to a specific area. So, keeping the flow happening can relieve pain.

  1. A gentle massage on either side of spine in a downward circular direction can increase circulation. Your animal will show how much pressure is necessary.
There is an acupressure point, located in the “hollow” just in front of the outside if the hind leg ankle (in front of the Achilles tendon), where you can press lightly for 15 seconds at a time to alleviate pain.

    1. Nutritional : Vitamin E given once daily at 50 IU for small dogs or cats, up to 400 IU for large dogs, plus 20-50 mcg. Selenium acts as a good anti-inflammatory agent. Caution should be used if high blood pressure exists.

Antioxidant combinations with Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate at 250- 1,000 mg daily helps maintain smooth joint surfaces.

    1. Herbs: Nettles or Alfalfa at 100 mg- 500 mg daily mixed with food helps with joint circulation and pain.
    2. Homeopahty: A remedy can be given 1-2 times daily for 1-3 days. Relief should be apparent during this time – if it is correct remedy. Remedies of the 6th, 12th, or 30th potency may be used, with a dose being 1 pellet for a small dog or cat, to 3 pellets for a large dog. Repeat a remedy if it has been effective during the next episode of discomfort.

Rhus toxidendron is helpful for arthritis that is worse when animals first start to move, but then “warm” out of it as they continue moving, getting painful again after too much action. These animals will feel worse during wet, cold weather or when the weather abruptly changes. They also tend to have diarrhea episodes with blood, or panting or breathing problems at night.
Ruta graveolens can be used for arthritis of the elbow, wrist, or ankle joint where there is little muscle but a lot of tendon or ligament attachments.
Bryonia alba is beneficial for animals who feel pain with any kind of motion. They also like to lie on the side that hurts them because pressure makes it feel better. This animal prefers cool, cloudy days.
Calcarea carbonica helps animals that are slightly overweight, sensitive to food changes, and who have had bone problems from a young age. Golden Retrievers seem to do well with this remedy. The arthritis is worse in wet, cold weather, and the animal seem to have a numbness over the affected leg that reveals itself as stumbling or collapse when they arise.
