VACCINE REACTIONS
Consider consulting a homeopathic veterinarian. This section only covers acute reactions to vaccination. These are generally responses that occur within the first day or so.
Common acute reactions to vaccines include swelling of the face, especially around the eyes, hives, breathing difficulty, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, trembling, and weakness. Behavior changes may also occur regularly. Fear and aggression are the most common behavioral reactions. Seizures and even paralysis may also occur following vaccination, though less commonly.
If your animal experiences one of these reactions, contact the veterinarian who administered the vaccine. If the reaction includes facial swelling of breathing difficulty (the latter often follows the former) you should take the animal to the clinic right away (see also “allergic Reactions.” above). With the other responses, you may usually attempt home treatment. Seizures warrant veterinary attention if they last more than two to tree times. One of the following homeopathic medicines may help if your companion has a reaction to vaccination. If you do not get a good response, see your veterinarian.
Aconitom napellus
These animals are usually restless. Seizures after vaccination may also respond to Aconite. Aconite’s jurisdiction is usually the early stages of inflammation. Fever is a common indication for this remedy, especially if accompanied by anxiety or fear.
Apis mellifica
If facial swelling occurs following vaccination, this is the first remedy to consider. Diarrhea after vaccination may also respond, especially if the animal is thirst less (most animals with diarrhea are thirsty).
Antimonium tartaricum
This remedy may be needed for diarrhea after vaccination. Respiratory difficulty may also respond, although Thuja is usually the first choice for vaccine induced breathing problems.
Arsenicum album
This remedy may also be of assistance for those animals that develop breathing difficulty, diarrhea, or vomiting following vaccination. Back pain following a vaccination may response to this remedy.
Belladonna
An animal who repetitively turns in circles following vaccination may also respond to belladonna. 350. Intense fevers come under the sphere of this remedy also. This remedy may successfully treat seizures that occur after a vaccination. These animals tend to be agitated and restless with dilated pupils. They may be very aggressive as well.
Pyrogenium
This remedy may be useful for persistent fevers following vaccination, especially if the animal is experiencing pain along the back. It is also sometimes given routinely following vaccinations, but sees the note below under Thuja regarding this usage.
Selicea (Silica)
Some cases or seizures may also respond to Silicea. This remedy may be helpful for diarrhea following vaccination, especially if the patient is weak, rather delicate, and sensitive to noises or to brushing the coat.
Thuja accidentalis
This is often the first remedy given, even for chronic diseases, if vaccination is suspected to be the cause. Asthmatic breathing, eye inflammation, diarrhea, urinary problems, and rear leg weakness or paralysis are some of the conditions that may respond to thuja if they occur following a vaccination. It is much better to avoid the vaccination. Thuja is one of our best remedies (along with Silicea) for adverse effects from vaccination. Many practitioners routinely give this remedy following vaccinations, though it probably has minimal effect when used in this manner. It is foolish to assume that we can give vaccinations and then simply remove any negative impact with homeopathy.
